morocco Itinerary : 7 Days from Casablanca to Marrakesch
In the first day of your 5 day desert tour begins with a pickup from your accommodation, the Tangier airport, or port. Known as “the bride of the north,” Tangier sits where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean at Cape Spartel. We’ll explore the city’s highlights, including the Cave of Hercules and Cape Spartel. After free time for lunch, we drive inland through Tetouan and the Rif mountains, with stops for panoramic views, before settling for the night in Chefchaouen.
Following breakfast, take your time to explore the charming alleyways of Chefchaouen, famously known as the “blue city.” As our 5-day desert tour continues, we venture onward to the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Volubilis boasts well-preserved remnants of its glorious past, including intricate mosaics, ancient pillars, and archways. After immersing ourselves in the history of Volubilis, we journey 30 kilometers to the imperial city of Meknes, once the Ismaili capital. Here, we marvel at architectural wonders such as Bab Al-Mansour, the Sahrij Souani basin, the Royal stables, the granary, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. Our day concludes as we make our way to Fes, where we’ll enjoy an overnight stay in a traditional riad, ready to embrace the wonders of this historic city.
Following breakfast, we embark on a journey southwards through Imouzzer en route to Ifrane. Renowned for its chilly climate, snowfall, and charming alpine-style architecture, Ifrane is aptly dubbed the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Our adventure continues to the cedar forest, home to the Barbary macaques. As we wander through the forest, feel free to interact with these playful creatures.
Next, we proceed to Midelt, where you’ll have leisure time for lunch. Our route then takes us through the picturesque Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and alongside the scenic Ziz valley, with opportunities to pause for breathtaking panoramic views.
In the afternoon, we arrive at the captivating Sahara desert of Merzouga. Here, we transition to camelback, traversing the sandy expanse as we journey towards our desert camp. Along the way, we pause atop a towering dune to witness the mesmerizing sunset painting the sky in vibrant hues.
Upon reaching the camp, nestled amidst the dunes and blending traditional nomadic tents with luxurious amenities, you’ll be immersed in an unforgettable experience. Delight in the rhythmic beats of Berber drums and dance around the campfire under the expansive canopy of stars. As night falls, retire to your comfortable accommodations, serenaded by the peaceful tranquility of the desert.
Wake up early in the morning is a must do, in order to contemplate the beautiful sunrise. Free time for breakfast.
Then we leave the desert to visit Rissani town, the ancient capital of Tafilalet. Rissani still a major trading center in
the region. With a large souk lively on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. After a stroll in Rissani souk, we continue to
Erfoud, where we visit one of the workshops of fossilized marble.
Then we drive through Touroug and Tinjdad palm groves to reach the Todra Gorges. The course of Todra river has
carved out a grand canyon through the mountains. This high red cliffsided canyon is an ideal place for rock
climbers. Feel free to wander in the gorges and appreciate the beauty of the landscape. Free time for lunch in a
restaurant. Then we continue to the Dades valley through Boumalne Dades. Inevitable stops at the “monkey fingers”
rock formation, and on a spot atop of a mountain overlooking the Dades valley. Dinner and overnight in a hotel.
After breakfast, we continue to Kalaa Magouna, to visit the Rose valley. A Rose Festival is held annually in May, where
the locals offer their rose products, from perfumes, rose water, oil, to cosmetic products. We then drive through the
palm groves of Skoura and visit the Kasbah of Amredhyle. Then we reach Ouarzazate. Where we visit the studios in
which famous movies were shot, and also visit the Taourirt Kasbah.
We then depart to visit the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. A fortified village recognized as a World Heritage Site
by UNESCO. Furthermore, the Kasbah has appeared in many movies including : Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy…etc.
And also TV series including Game Of Thrones. After that we visit the Telouet Kasbah. Then we continue to Marrakesh
by going through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, and the High Atlas Mountains. Stops will be made for lunch and to take
pictures at interesting spots. Finally, we drop off at your accommodation in a Riad in Marrakesh. End of the tour. End
